Woody Species Diversity, Community Structure, and Regeneration Capacity in Central Ethiopian Urban Forest Patches

چکیده
Land cover change in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital, is driven by recurring drought and the economic problems of society-initiated afforestation. The goal this study was to learn about state woody species regeneration Yeka’s urban forest patches. Thirty plots (20 m × 20 size) were sampled identify plants for purpose. All wooden trees with a height greater than 1.3 each plot identified, enumerated, their diameter measured. Acacia decurrens determined be predominant species, an importance value index (IVI) 161.09, followed melanoxlon (IVI = 44.69). bootstrapping PERMANOVA test used show how community overlapped. result reveals that dissimilarity low (p > 0.05), which supported assumption multivariate dispersion homogeneity. area’s generalized linear model (GLM) showed all statistically significant characteristics associated closure year presence mature entire year. Two twenty tree i.e., melanoxylon found nearly equal numbers three growth stages as well having strong regenerating potential. rapid expansion exotic spp. necessitates careful attention regeneration. To reinforce improve ecosystem services, conservation restoration efforts should encourage native plant species.

Species Diversity of Trees and Forest Floor Plants in Oriental beech Forest Types of Shastkalate Educational and Research Forest, Gorgan)
Trees are the most important biological elements of forest ecosystems. The variability of the tree species composition inhabiting in the Oriental beech forest, not only forms different forest types but also has a remarkable impact on the species diversity of forest floor plants, due to the existence of trees in the overstory layer. In this research, forest types of an an Oriental beech were ide...
متن کاملWoody Species Diversity in Forest Plantations in a Mountainous Region of Beijing, China: Effects of Sampling Scale and Species Selection
The role of forest plantations in biodiversity conservation has gained more attention in recent years. However, most work on evaluating the diversity of forest plantations focuses only on one spatial scale; thus, we examined the effects of sampling scale on diversity in forest plantations. We designed a hierarchical sampling strategy to collect data on woody species diversity in planted pine (P...

15 صفحه اولDrought stress and tropical forest woody seedlings: effect on community structure and composition
1 We hypothesized that severe drought affects the structure of tropical forests by favouring seedlings of some species or groups at the expense of others. To test this hypothesis, we irrigated naturally occurring woody seedlings during an El Niño-related drought in seasonal moist tropical forest on Barro Colorado Island, Panama. We predicted that irrigated plots would retain greater species ric...
متن کاملInvasive earthworm species and nitrogen cycling in remnant forest patches
Invasive non-native earthworms in forested areas of the northeastern United States are of concern since they have the potential to greatly change the nutrient dynamics of these ecosystems. Urban landscapes are particularly susceptible to non-native species invasions. In this study, we assessed earthworm communities and nitrogen transformations rates in urban and rural forest patches of the Grea...
